I call you "friend" but you don't know me
We're not friends, not really
I truly mean it when I wish you well
But we aren't friends, not I can tell
You have such a busy life outside of this media
If we passed each other, you'd have no idea
That person who is a friend to you
Just brushed past and you never knew
I used to feel hurt and sad to know
You call me "friend" but don't follow
Maybe I'm too literal or possibly old-fashioned
Because I assume it's sincere when friendship is mentioned
That saying you appreciate and love someone
Means you are friends, even after the chat is done
You see, I assume you are as genuine as I
That I wouldn't be the only one to reach out and try
Maybe it's selfish of me to want that from you
Your life is busy with all that you do
Why would you want to spend your energy on a "friend" from a virtual space
Someone you've never met face to face
