The bite was in your smile
camouflaging your viperous eyes
with charm and silver tipped words
from your forked tongue
the venom was crept in,
slithering
as you'd twist and turn
bending tree branches
with your weight
tracing vicious circles
in the ground.
I felt the pain of it
traveling up my arms
searing hot,
boiling my blood.
But I dare not let loose any steam
nor whimper a scream.
You bandaged the wound
patting me like a school girl
making everyday poisoning
seem normal
just a vitamin
another pill to swallow.
slow, slow, slow
was the crawl of it
like the last of the colors fading
in the deep hued gradients of sunset
before night takes over.
My world turned black.
My insides corroded
from the lingering acidity.
When I heard your tail rattling
the soft hiss of warning glared from your eyes
Poised ready to strike
I realized
I had forgotten how to run.

This poem successfully describes a poisonous relationship in imagery as slippery as life. The line "making everyday poisoning seem normal" is a chilling triumph in capturing the subtlety of abuse. The imagery is a gut, chilling, and ultimately heartbreakingly experience for the reader.🌞
This is phenomenal!! The imagery, the emotions, the story...it's all perfect! I'd pick a favorite line, but they're all so good :)
