Incomplete Tree

My family is very big and jumbled up.

Don’t know much about my family,

It remains a bit of a mystery.

The real height of our tree,

It is unknown to me.

I don’t know all our roots,

Or the soil it was sown in,

Pulled ourselves by our boots,

Or anyone else’s sin.

____________________________________________

Our branches go so high,

I don’t know where to begin.

Going straight to the sky,

And some are so thin.

____________________________________________

A few I can easily climb,

Done so since I was a kid.

Got easier for me over time,

Just like everything else did.

____________________________________________

Grandpa’s family is unknown,

Burdened by our silence.

Our family tree is overgrown,

And torn up by violence.
