In the Still of Moonlight

Forbidden Vortex

By Cindy CalderPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 3 min read

The creature looked at me beyond the obvious, and I felt myself shiver amidst

The deepness of his penetrating eyes, so piercing and midnight blue.

With an intensity that bespoke everything that could never be missed,

I shuddered and knew beyond any doubt, a new reckoning anew.

In his crystal blue depths, I saw a hunger, a pure lake of desire

That filled me with a deep-seated longing for something new and unknown,

Inside me grew a raging, ravaging, and encompassing lit fire

Fueled purely by his liquid gaze, and hunger filled me until I heard myself moan.

I felt the haunting of my soul and my eyes stung with a mist of fine tears

I was both afraid and enticed beyond any measure I'd ever known.

He crept slowly toward me, his purpose much too evidently clear,

I stood where I was, unmoving, lest the impetus of his purpose was sown.

The line of his beautiful mouth hardened, his blue eyes deepened to black

Transfixed, unable to breathe or to move, I watched him draw nearer;

I felt the chill of his breath as he sighed, poised on the precipice of attack,

Bewitched, I froze as enlightenment of his purpose became abundantly clearer.

Here was no simple mortal known to humankind amidst the moon filled dark,

Instead a wonderful creature, so beautifully formed betwixt the night and the light.

He leaned close to me, his gaze intent as his mouth reached its mark.

I fell into him, no desire to resist, for I knew he was to be my plight.

I succumbed to the thrill of his touch and the chill of his mouth as he imbibed

From me the warmth of the blood that ran forth so magnificently red,

And with dawning awareness, I realized that evermore our two worlds would collide

Into an unknown, unchangeable eclipse of a moment that I neither feared nor did dread.

He lifted his coal black eyes of desire, looking deeply into my dazed eyes of green,

And I was reminded of the dark depths of the quiet lake that just outside my window stood.

So strong was the undeniable and unquenchable need for more of what I had seen,

That I grasped ahold of him, pleading and begging that he take from me all that he could.

Oh wonderful creature of darkness and light, mark me forevermore

With your touch of ice, your cold breath, and your stealthy lightness of foot,

Make me yours on this earth and beyond, until I die with the truth of your lore;

My mind screamed, my heart beat, as the unbidden and ravenous thought took root.

A grimace of a smile slowly and deliberately formed upon his handsome visage

Until he stepped back and gave me a look of pure longing so vivid

That my heart skipped a beat and felt the immensity of the privilege;

But after a moment, he quietly withdrew, and the need for him steadily lifted.

As he disappeared into the liquid, black ink of the dark evening

I looked about and slowly returned to myself, though amazed and in wonder

With thoughts anew at what I had just seen. Despite knowledge that it was deceiving,

My being and mind burst, and my heart broke until it split thoroughly asunder.

Beautiful creature of darkness and light, come back to me, my heart silently cried.

I long for the vivid, deep blue of your eyes and the black of your soul,

I will give you the richness of my blood evermore if you will but draw nigh.

Please return on the wings of the night, gifting back my heart that you stole.

Now in the stillness of the dark night, many long years beyond that first time,

I feel the blue of his piercing look, the chill of his breath, and the touch of his mouth,

And I long for he who invaded the still of midnight while into my heart he did climb,

Creating a vortex within my soul, as for eternity, my love for any other he did douse.
