In the Face of Adversary

Overcoming Mistakes and Struggles in Court

By Melinda PearsonPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

I stood before the judge and jury,

To tell my side of the story,

But as I spoke, my voice grew blurry,

And my words became a jumbled quarry.

I stumbled over my own tongue,

And lost my train of thought,

My confidence was swiftly undone,

As I realized the mistake I brought.

I had rehearsed and practiced,

My words a hundred times or more,

But in the moment, I had missed,

And now my credibility was poor.

I could feel the weight of judgment,

As the eyes of the court bore down,

And in that moment, I lament,

The mistakes that left me with a frown.

But then I took a deep breath,

And collected my thoughts anew,

I reminded myself of my strength,

And what I knew to be true.

I found my voice again,

And spoke with clarity and might,

And in that moment, I gained,

The courage to fight the good fight.

For though I had messed up,

And stumbled in my words,

I rose above and didn't give up,

And found the strength to be heard.

In court, mistakes can happen,

But what matters most is how we react,

We can let our nerves unfasten,

Or rise above and stay on track.

So let us learn from our errors,

And find the courage to try,

For though we may feel scared and inferior,

We can still stand tall and fly.
