In the Company of Trees
The world is a far away place when I am with the trees
It’s the only time I feel free
They speak in a thousand silent ways
knowing silence is my heart’s favorite song
While people speak out of turn too much
without cause
without sense
and think thoughts that only widen the distance between us
making me feel constantly misunderstood
Trees just are and simply let me be
They love me with a love unknown to the world
A love without questions, caveats, or unknowns
A love without end
They take me whole every moment in my forever form
in my formless form
That which is me beyond what the world thinks it sees
Their needs mirror my own
sunlight and water is how I grow
Space and silence how I soar
Together we make art and play
Fantasies come alive in the company of trees
Spirits, sages, ancestors
Surround me in a constant ecstatic dance
I swirl like a falling leave
I swoon like the light bouncing on their boughs
I dream I never have to return
I go on adventures I hope never end
I explore, I search, I learn
And sometimes I even sing
and dance with the trees
Nothing is more graceful and riveting
That the song and dance of the trees
How they sway in the breeze
How they frolic in the shimmering gossamer of the rays of the sun
And I wonder, who would I be if it were just me and the trees
Would I be wilder and braver
Would I constantly sing
Would I still want a dog and a lover
Or would I swim and glide and laugh and sing
And simply just be free
