In the Beginning
Of the first day that was written down...
In the beginning of the first day that was written down,
The Monkeys got together to decide how to live together,
One in the Jungle, One in the Plains,
One along the River, One on the Ocean Waves.
All it took for their well-crafted plans to come apart,
Was for One Monkey to use a stick to greet his brother,
Brother-Monkey responded with a gift of red-hot fire.
It has been a cold-hearted war ever since.
In the beginning of the first hour of the first day,
Monkeys accepted the fact of their daily lives,
Some were predator, Some were prey,
Some to rule, Some to obey.
The tables began to flip over on their sides,
When Monkeys started asking questions of their Kings,
Monkey-King and Monkey-Queen couldn’t stand out in the sun,
When Monkey-Sons and Monkey-Daughters dropped the shades.
In the beginning of the first day of the calendar,
The Monkeys got together to discuss if they’re the only Ones,
Alone in the Jungle, Alone on the Plains,
Alone along the River, Alone on the Ocean Waves.
One-by-One they began to stop and think a single common thought,
Individuals trapped in their own heads.
Monkeys with more in common than they’d ever know,
Opened their mouths to speak their thoughts aloud.
Instead, they sang a single song in harmony.
