In the Beginning

A Love Story

By Monsoor AliPublished 7 years ago 1 min read

You were a patient, growing flower

Delicate and learning

Rooted in the center of a dying world

An offspring of destiny and chance

A rare thing

A world's wonder

Naive and free

A lost angel amongst sinners and drunks

In heaven's light, moving slowly with practiced grace

A bit clumsy and shy

Hiding in plain sight

But I saw you

Perfectly beautiful

And saw through your camouflage of humble dress and quietness

And in that infinite moment

You forever captured my attention

And at that timeless second, hope was born

And on that unforgettable day, I began to live

***

Time made her a friend

Beauty, my muse

From elaborate entanglements of organic, potent emotion

And long nights of telepathy, passion and philosophy

We became lovers

Inseparable

Of one heart and mind

I clung to her

Like morning dew on young buttercup petals

Obsessed, a slave I'd become

She was gravity, oxygen, and God

Her touch was medicine

Every kiss was resurrected life

Born again with each embrace

I knew then what freedom was

Never needing but always wanting more

***

Epic music was made

Children conceived and born

Dreams manifest

Joy was the air we breathed

We'd become the heroes of fairy tales and poetry

Magic was our world

Legs and arms wild vines

Bodies curled and pressed hard against each other

Sleeping safe and warm

One heartbeat

One breath

Fear, absent and forgotten

Hands held sweaty palms for dear life

Synchronized steps, deep stares

Uncontrollable laughter and finished sentences

All the things written and dreamed of love were we

And it was true

For many years it was true

love poems
