The Promise of Pastries (Photo: @UmaSabirah)
That madeleine moment,
Dunked in tea.
Precious fragments
Of the past,
Involuntary, unbidden,
Brought on by a certain, specific smell,
Triggering chains
(autobiographical)
Temporal, traumatic.
Recurrent research reactivates
To elicit positive emotional effects.
Cues to occurrences
Thought forgotten,
Yet remnant to the Core
Resurface with a taste,
The promise of pastries,
The senses recall
All the wonder once buried:
Oversaturated colors,
A fragrance evocative,
The muscles unbound,
A melody, a sound…

The bibliophile in the library,
Evoking borrowed memories.

Fragrance is powerful - flowers or dirt or cooking - bringing back deep memories. Nice poem!
