In Search of Light

In a box full of darkness, I remain confined

The background music plays

It does nothing to me

I ache, and I try to fall asleep

I should have gone for a walk

I should have stepped outside my bedroom

But I remain here. I belong here

Days pass by, and restlessness within me grows

Something is missing, isn’t it?

I’m wearing green and I’m blue inside

I look at the ceiling and see the sky

I try to leave the pain behind

A few days later, I’m amidst laughter

Love, joy and warmth

Confetti and the sweetness of the cake

I want to remain here, I feel okay

But I’m back to looking at the ceiling

This time, I don’t see the sky

I try to find peace within

My back hurts, and my head feels heavy

I fall asleep searching for solace

I walk an endless road

I long for acceptance

I come across a mirror

I stand in front of it

Wearing my yellow checked skirt

Black top and black boots

My hair is short and dyed red

I don’t like what I see

I wish for the mirror to shatter

I leave it behind

The blazing sun, too much brightness

But within me, there’s growing darkness

I’m tired now, but I walk

The sun sets, and I hear the music again

It’s hauntingly beautiful

I look at the moon

In the stillness of the night

I find light.
