In My Wake

the submerged truth

I slept

and as I ebbed and flowed

in and out

in and out

of my day’s remains

I dreamt

Invincible

sleeping stillness

a smile

seeping through the fissures

of my soul

tugging for air

I awoke

the gravitational weight

of Jupiter

heavy dark pure

tugging at my soul

holding me

captive

warping my smile

into its orbital pull

I am a captive

weightless floating

awaiting redemption

I am conscious

I pick up my dream shears

from the bedside table

snick and snip

a pause

freedom

the fraying ends

of what holds me back

snapping and slapping

dancing

in my wake

I am awake
