Have you not seen the bewilderment
That is a soul finding another soul
Which, in an instant,
Both paralyzes and consumes it whole?
All these lonely people stand
So close to one another
And yet not one of them
Will stop the other
All these lonely people
Wanting nothing more than a glance
A reminder that yes: they, too, live!
Wanting nothing more than to be given a chance
And yet they pass by
Just as lonely as the soul standing alone
But they do not cry
It is all they have known
Until suddenly one does stop
The world stops beneath
And there is no rhyme and no reason
But there is an inability to breathe
It is not the “love at first sight” of fairy tales
It is as the Japanese say
“I may not love you now
But I know that I will love you someday”
Perhaps these two souls are bound
By particles entangled from the beginning of time
What a rare thing it is
What a special thing for us to find
