In a Corner of the World
Things are very different to the UK

In a Corner of the World
In a corner of the world,
silence trembles in the air.
A cat stretches slowly,
claiming warmth that wants to slip away.
A book lies open,
pages waiting for truths we never say,
thoughts drifting like ghosts
that never settle, only linger.
Children’s laughter rises,
sharp as memory,
echoing through places
that once felt safe.
Bubbles lift and vanish,
small moments breaking
before we can hold them,
bright for a breath, gone in the next.
The old tree stands scarred,
roots gripping the earth in defiance.
Its leaves whisper warnings
from years that cut deep.
In its shadow we stop,
pulled into the weight of it all,
breathing through storms
we never asked to weather.
Every tick of the clock
reminds us of what slips away,
ordinary moments
that shape a life without mercy.
In a world racing forward,
we slow our steps,
searching for strength
in the quiet that remains.

This is a poem of someone wondering what will happen to the world some way some day. Good job.
Your writing balances nostalgia and reality in a way that feels deeply human.
I really liked these lines: "A book lies open, pages waiting for truths we never say,"
