In a Blaze of Glory
Sun Set
You dip below the horizon
deftly gathering your flowing train
of fiery golden glory
with an elegant flourish
you surround yourself with its
scintillating glow in a romantic show
of reliable splendor
day in and day out
you set fire to the sky
burning down the day
like a runaway candle
for the adoration of those
intentional observers
who know that you enjoy
casting a pale bland backdrop
and then suddenly flinging
the most intense hues upward
in a defiant last statement
until morning
when your sweet yellow
palette belies your
sultry scene from the
edge of
nightfall

This poem is a stunning sunset ode with rich imagery. I was especially drawn to "burning down the day like a runaway candle," which is a uniquely creative metaphor. Personification of the sun allows us a rich and powerful reading experience.🌞
