Birch leaves below imprint, photo by the author
Fall in ice amber,
All alike falling silent,
Save one windhover –
Rising, kindling fire,
offering to endless night,
Small peace, day's ember:
Once green life-giving,
Pale now, golden hope planting
In vale-shadows, spring.
