Important Man and Weak Woman
His wife exposed him. A slap on patriarchy

He was an important man,
at least, he thought so.
Back then, in his times,
a little college education
brought decent job.
Unlike most women
who often have to adjust,
their job prospects,
around marriages,
he held onto his job.
He was unaffected,
when he became a father.
His wife managed it all,
and he kept climbing,
the career ladder,
got promoted in rungs,
and after two decades,
he was in a big position.
So he thought of himself,
as a high-value, dignitary,
and his wife looked small.
He got opportunities to stray,
and pursued affairs.
His wife sensed it,
but for family harmony,
and their daughter's wellbeing,
she ignored it, lied to self.
The man did not think,
much of his wife.
but thought, it's a favor,
that he is supporting her.
But he loved his daughter,
like a precious princess,
she was his gene, after all.
And when she reaches,
marriageable age,
he had planned to find a guy,
and shower ample dowry,
and show his vanity,
in the hypocrite society.
But the daughter fell in love,
with a guy,
from different community,
someone from humble origin.
The father turned livid,
he threatened the daughter,
she can not marry,
outside the community
and asked her to break up.
The mother, the homemaker,
the one he dismissed as meek,
with a narrow outlook, unlike him—
did not remain silent anymore!
She gave him a sharp glare,
and said with conviction:
"A married man and a father,
can have illicit affairs,
with many women,
from other communities,
but a young, educated girl
cannot choose her life partner?
What kind of insanity is that?
Enough of the patriarchy!.
Daughter will marry,
whom she decides,
no more control and bullying."
The man did not say a word,
but marched out of the room,
feeling exposed and ashamed.
The daughter looked,
at her furious mother,
she had no clue of this secret,
she thought of her,
as weak, devoid of voice,
but now she saw,
her true power!
