Impatience Burns off my Tongue

A devotional love poem.

By E'LISEPublished 2 years ago 2 min read

Impatience burns off my tongue

and I can’t help but wonder

How does the sun not see the moon

reflecting what he wishes to make bloom?

I want to tear off your lips

so they’ll never be kissed, by another.

I slam reckless thunder into the skies

as you wander, away from me again.

My heart cries.

And a little piece of our love dies.

And somehow becomes born at the same time.

So I throw my hands up

in surrender.

and pray to the heavens

that your heart will be

swayed to me, again.

And that it will be guarded gracefully for me

and I breathe deeply in.

And God whispers,

Settle and trust in your beloved.

But the breath is fire flame in my lungs

that sparks across the desert plaines

where you run

I want to shove your fears into my blaze.

An internal haze clouds over your eyes

and I try to shake you awake.

Wake up, my love.

Wake up.

How can you not see through the smoke?

It’s right here, in me.

Let’s go.

There fire’s here.

But you’re scared..

And so am I..

To stare into the charcoal void

that is the lover’s choice.

Because you know

just as well as I

at that point,

we die.

And I don’t want to burn either.

So instead can we be

each other’s wild teachers?

And learn how to dance within love’s ethers?

Become the tender preachers

and sooth each other’s misdemeanors?

Play the vocal chords in our souls and be the deep feeling visionary dreamers?

Maybe there’s a cleaner way

to enter into The Union,

that we both pray for.

As radical healers, we we’re made for it.

But must we take blood from the other

to prove we are lovers?

I don’t think so.

In fact, I know.

That we can grow slow.

Into a love that softly flows

and tenderly shows

that all of you is welcome home here.

So please my dear,

stop running away

from what’s right in front of your face.

Your beloved only wants to

shower with you

in love’s timeless grace.

And find all the beautiful ways

to co-creatively play in shared space.
