If We Let Ourselves

Exhale

If We Let Ourselves

You look great in yellow,

And you always smell amazing.

It’s not fair how much you make me feel.

All at once, each emotion tangled with the next.

Do you even know the power you hold over me?

Gun to my head, there is no word in the English language that sums up this whirlwind.

I couldn’t tell you with one all-encompassing term.

But I do know that nothing’s ever been more complicated, yet simple for me.

I enjoy life more with you in it than without.

I can survive without you, but my days will have less joy.

And though you have trouble admitting these things, I know you feel the same way.

I wish you would let yourself have happiness in your life.

And I wish I allowed myself the same decency.

We deserve the joy we wish for others.

And I believe we could find it together

If we let ourselves.
