If tomorrow starts without me?

If tomorrow starts without me?

One day it will! Today it will? Three truths and a lie to swallow like a bitter pill.

The grandfather I never knew would say, “I read the obituaries in the paper this morning, and I wasn’t in them so I guess I better leave the house.”

He would say, “I am not going to die in that ditch,” even though his father’s Gypsy father did that trying to escape a wrathful wave of townsfolk.

He would say, “The only thing fair in life is a ball between first and third!”

He would never call himself a nihilist but he would say, “I don’t know why they call it the death penalty, because once you’re dead your troubles are over.”

So I’ll check the newspaper to see if tomorrow starts without me, if it does, I guess my troubles are over.
