If I Could Help it
The things we want aren't always what we need.

If I could help it, I would have a big house, one where all my kids and families had their own rooms and offices.
If I could help it, it would come on a big plot of land with a tiny house out back for Mama and Daddy.
If I could help it, I would have a big pool for us all to stay cool in the summer.
If I could help it, I'd have a big farm that was professionally plowed and tilled every year.
If I could help it, my kitchen would be so large, I could make anything and everything, and have any machinery that I want.
If I could help it, I would get my mama the best medicine for her illness that money could buy.
If I could help it, I'd have a couple of cars, including a big truck for hauling things.
If I could help it, everyone I love would want for nothing.
If I could help it, my animals would have the most healthy food.
And they would be pampered weekly by groomers.
If only I could help it.
But I don't think that I can.
I try and try, but I wasn't born into money.
Nor do I play the lottery often.
I'm not particularly talented or pretty so becoming famous is out.
I work really hard to care for my kids, my family.
And my family works hard for us too.
We don't have a lot of fancy things.
And our house is quite small - almost too small for all of us.
But our house is a full house.
It's a blessed house.
A happy and joyful house.
A house full of love.
A house full of hope.
And maybe I can't help that I can't shower my loved ones with fancy items.
And maybe I can't help if what we have is hand-me-down or not the latest addition.
But these are things we don't need.
And all I really need is my family and my pets.
Other than that, everything else is just a bonus blessing.
And I'm grateful for everything, every day.
My 5-year-old daughter is competing in Nationals at the All American Miss Pageant in Orlando Fl, during Thanksgiving Week this year. It is being hosted by National American Miss. We are trying to raise money for hotel costs, her casual modeling outfit, and her formal gown, and to submit her portfolio in a Photogenic. All money I make off of Vocal will be going straight to her Pageant.
If you are inspired by my “amazing” writing (haha!) to donate to Aylaina-Sky's pageant, please tip this story! Every dollar helps!

But I wasn't born into money. That line hit me so hard. Loved your poem!
Those are all things I thought I would do one day. It does not always go as planned
