I write the dictates of my heart,
I write the longings of my soul;
I write the struggles of the past,
I write the hope the future holds.
I write...I write!
I write the quandaries of life;
I write the things I understand.
I write the nuances of the night,
I write the language of the land!
I write...I write!
I write the song of sweet romance,
I write the dirge when out of tune;
I write of joy and sorrow’s dance.
I write the blueness of the moon!
I write...I write!
I write the smell of baby’s breath;
I write the creak of ancient knees...
I write the rhyme of birth and death;
I write the whispers of the trees.
I write...I write!
I write of family and of friends;
I write of mysteries of the mind.
I write the way a story ends;
I write of ever-marching time.
I write...I write!
I write of universal themes;
I write of the rhythm of a drummer,
I write of the sleep of wildest dreams;
I write of the sweltering heat of summer.
I write...I write!
I write, I write, I write non-stop!
I write until my pencil drops!
I write...it’s all I have to give;
I write, I write, I write to live!
