I would rather...

poetry.

I would rather sit here and think about everything and anything

Or watch paint dry through a 3D scanning microscope,

Eat popcorn, hot or cold,

Or burn my mouth dry with Salt and Vinegar chips.

I'd rather listen to that one annoying song

Or shuffle my cringiest playlist, full blast, at a party

I would honestly quite prefer to have oily hair

Or smudged mascara on my nose

Or drive to the wrong house for a movie marathon in my pyjamas

Especially if it was the wrong night, too.

I'd choose having two different sized shoes

A high heel stiletto and a child's sneaker

Whenever I was rushing back to the car for the groceries.

I'd love to leave my keys in the boot,

Bump my elbow in the same spot every time

Or have my dog start howling when I reached that part in Defying Gravity.

I'd go to shitty karaoke bars

Go bowling but get my fingers stuck and go flying

All while crying because of that bit in Endgame meant the peak of Marvel, anything better, wasn't coming.

I would rather spend my money at the Minecraft movie

Or become old enough to watch How To Train Your Dragon: Rescue Riders become a live action too.

I'd wait forever and ever for the flat-earthers to take over the world

I'd prefer to submit to them

To allow the AI bots to take over,

For my bank account to become cracked like dry, dry, lips

When I spent too much money on a VR headset or a microchip in my brain.

I'd love to go skydiving someday

Or get stuck underwater in a shark cage, surrounded by screaming tourists.

Pick one, and I'll do it,

Because I would rather write poetry until my fingers were worn down to the knuckle

Than

Pretend

That

I

Am

"FINE."
