I Wish I Could Have Known You Better

Ellsworth Street

By Rowan Finley Published 3 years ago 1 min read

I wish I could have known you better.

I know that your name was Jesse, just like mine,

and that you were twenty-eight, just like me.

I wish I could have known you better.

You lived in the same city as me,

and we went to the same youth group for awhile.

I wish I could have known you better.

I could have lent my ear to hear your story,

or somehow got you the help you needed.

I wish I could have known you better.

Maybe I could have taken your pain away somehow,

or made you laugh when you felt sad and hopeless.

I'm so sorry, Jesse...

I didn't really know you at all.
