I Was a Rich but I Settled for a Poor Man’s Love

The right choice I made. That I know in my heart

I Was a Rich but I Settled for a Poor Man’s Love

Silk dresses folded.

Pearls in a drawer.

A house with no laughter.

A heart with no heat.

He gave me jewels.

And locked all the doors.

Smiles for strangers.

Cold sheets at night.

The garden grew roses.

But I stayed inside.

Watching from windows.

Counting the hours.

Then he came.

Empty pockets, warm hands.

Eyes like rivers.

Voice like rain.

We walked by the river.

Mud on my shoes.

No carriage, no servants.

Only his arm.

He brought me bread.

And a small room.

But he touched my face.

And meant it.

The pearls gathered dust.

The house stood empty.

I learned the taste.

Of freedom, of warmth.

Now I sweep the floor.

But my heart is full.

Poor man’s love.

Rich in my hands.

Lovely take on the value of love in a relationship rather than material things.
