A splash of color

enters your speech, berating

me for being me.

***

My opinions were

foolish to you, childish, lame.

You had no respect.

***

I tried to obtain

a scrap or shred of your love,

but you were empty.

***

If only I had

caught your tricks earlier,

spared myself the pain.

***

I loved you truly,

but you did not love me back.

Were you a mirage?

Well-wrought! When mirror regards mirror, which is the reflection? It's so hard sometimes to separate reality from our fondest wishes, and who can blame us for aspiring to the highest desiderata?
