I want to be a prism

My world in color

By Selena SpriggsPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I want to be a prism from my hair to my feet,

And shine brightly before everyone I meet.

I want to be seen past my dark chestnut skin,

There is where all my luminous color will begin.

From my loving Pinks and my Olive pain,

I'm silly Salmon and Periwinkle vain.

There's my crazy Lime, Cyan, and Celeste,

My passionate Magenta, embracing the rest.

The way that my rage can be furious like scarlet Red,

and how my deep Blue words form waves in my head.

Somehow my Ivory pride can bring me to shame,

And my Ebony insecurities can threaten to maim.

From my Yellow laughter to my Crystal tears,

to my Golden wit and burnt Umber fears.

I feel emotion with my big Rose-colored heart,

I have a transparent mind, Cerulean, and smart.

I fight with my passive Jade tint,

and with my Amber soul, I repent.

I'm iridescent at best, opalescent at my worst,

but the world will notice my Brown skin first.

The amazing thing about me is all the colors I see.

The whole world mixing and blending beautifully.

I want to paint it and write it and tell everyone,

see the Teal in the sea, the Canary in the sun.

Be excellent, be brilliant, be vivid and bright,

learn from your darkness and live in your light.
