A Poem on Self-Acceptance

The demands of life can leave us feeling overwrought at times. We sometimes dislike looking at ourselves in the mirror. Other than being displeased with being either too fat or thin, we dislike the foolishness we displayed at yesterday's family dinner. We're uncomfortable with ourselves for being tactless at work.

Yes, we don't like the way we look in the mirror at times, for both physical and emotional reasons.

Self-acceptance isn't an easy process. We have to constantly challenge or negative self-talk. We've to appreciate our own quirkiness. And be grateful for the awesome people who we are.

The person we lay eyes on in the mirror isn't so bad-looking. Nor is he (or she) the worst person in the world.

Let's be thankful for ourselves. Enjoy this Butterfly CInquain.

The self and soul

Shown on its fragile glass

Hands want to shatter the brittle

Restrain

Close the mouth in the mirror

That wants to criticize

And love the form

Of you.
