I've Broken the Mould

I am not what it means to be a woman.

It’s been made incredibly clear to me,

In my 26 years of life,

That I do not fit into your

Cookie-cutter mould of

What it means to be a woman.

It’s been made incredibly clear to me

That my thighs are too wide,

My stomach is too full,

And that while my arse is thick,

It’s the wrong kind of thick.

It’s been made incredibly clear to me

That people feel that they can comment on my body,

At any time, or in any place,

Simply because they perceive it as

A body that’s not up to scratch.

It has been made incredibly clear to me

That I am considered as someone who is

“Less than”, despite the fact

My body makes me “more than.”

I am not what it means to be a woman.

But I've decided that I don't mind.

I am a woman that has broken the mould.

I may not meet the expectations of others,

But I fulfil my own,

And that's enough for me.
