I See You, Old Friend
Wave hello or goodbye?
You saw me
Standing in the queue
While I was getting food for my mother
You looked
You smiled
I saw you
We waved
And then we both looked away
You walked away
I continued to focus on the queue...
A few seconds later
I realised what had happened
Oh, how times have changed
Two people who were akin to siblings
Talking, laughing, sharing
As though we were blood under the same roof
But now
Even the water that ran through the friendship
Has run dry
Who is to be at fault?
Your deception, manipulation, lies
Or my unbothered behaviour, refusing to confront
So many questions...
No answers.
Just like that we continue on with our days
Knowing for sure that things will never be the same again
But wondering...
Always wondering...
What If.
Goodbye.
