I Say the Words I Wish to Hear
Speaking the Truths I Crave to Hear
I say the words I wish to hear,
Expecting the world to echo them clear,
In every action, in every breath,
A reflection of what my heart begets.
I speak with grace, I speak with care,
Hoping others will meet me there.
I stand firm on principles I keep,
Expecting others not to be weak.
This life of mine, it has a role,
Not to wither, but to fulfill my soul.
I am here to leave a mark, not fade,
To carve a path in history made..
Yet, how often, do I find,
We love what mirrors our own mind.
The things we do, the things we say,
Shape the way we view each day.
But what of others and their way?
We scorn, we push their views away.
Is it fair to judge so quick?
To only love what makes us tick?
For I like what I wish to like,
But the world’s more than just my strike.
Perhaps it’s time to see the whole,
And let the unfamiliar take its toll.
I say the words I wish to hear,
But maybe it’s time to lend an ear.
To grow beyond the self I know,
And let the winds of change bestow.
What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.
— Lord Buddha
Don’t you think this is what we usually do? Every action, every word, and every thought that comes to mind are, in some way, manifestations of our inherent desires, expressed in various forms.
Think of a time you reassured a friend, hoping someone would do the same for you. When you showed patience, silently wishing the world would be more patient with you. Our words, our actions they are reflections of what we hold within. The world may not always echo them back, but they shape the energy we bring, and sometimes, that’s enough to change everything.
I am polite in my speech, and I expect others to be the same. I stand by my principles, and I expect others to be clear with theirs. My understanding of this life of mine is that it has been given to me for a purpose, not to waste it away. I wish to leave a mark in the sands of time, not merely to eat and sleep.
We humans, at times, develop a tendency to favor the things we do and despise everything that comes from the other side. I like what I choose to like, and I hate what I choose to hate. Right and wrong, as I see it, change according to my perspective.
But perhaps the most profound realization is that this tendency, while deeply human, often limits us. It confines us to our own echo chambers, where our beliefs are validated, and opposing views are dismissed. True growth, I believe, comes when we step beyond this comfort zone, when we listen, reflect, and attempt to understand perspectives different from our own. Life is not just about leaving a mark but also about evolving, learning, and contributing to a shared understanding that transcends individual desires. If we can achieve that balance, then perhaps our purpose becomes not just personal but universal.
The world is a mirror, forever reflecting what you are doing, within yourself.
