The first time that I looked at you,

And when you looked at me

I memorized so many details,

But it was only outlines I could see.

I knew your skin was smooth

And your eyes were full of mischief,

I wanted to kiss you then and there

Instead I smiled, slightly breathless.

A silken sash covered my eyes,

An attempt to save me any pain

My heart begged please, tread lightly

I could look- but I saw blindly.

Our path began in darkness

Starlight shining from above,

It helped extend the blindness

My heart demanded so much of.

Courage came eventually

And I asked for time out in the sun

Your hand against my cheek,

The blindfold off- love had won.

For the first time, I could see you

Laugh lines crinkled ‘round your eyes

Kindness danced with firelight

My heart stilled with this surprise.

I took in every inch of you,

The you now standing in this light

For the first time, I knew love

And like a fairytale- at first sight.
