I Ruined the Cake
I ruined the cake today,
its edges black with smoke.
The sweetness turned to bitter,
the sugar into ash.
The kitchen smelt of sorrow,
a lesson in the air.
I stirred too fast with hurry,
and lost the tender touch.
I ruined the cake today,
but laughter saved the hour.
For even in the failure,
a memory was born.
The flour clung like snowflakes,
the eggshells cracked with spite.
The oven hissed and mocked me,
as though it knew my shame.
I tried to hide the damage,
with frosting thick and white.
But truth will always show,
beneath the sweetest mask.
I ruined the cake today,
yet still we gathered near.
We ate the broken pieces,
and found some joy in that.
For life is much like baking,
it rises, then it falls.
Mistakes can taste of kindness,
if shared with those you love.
So though the cake was ruined,
my heart was not destroyed.
I ruined the cake today,
but not the love we shared.

Beautiful and even kind of quaint. Been there done that as well. Sometimes the crumbs are better than the cake itself.
Such a sweet and relatable piece 🍰
