I Miss You

A poem about missing someone.

You're in my heart even when you're gone,

Deep in my lungs, the song that's unsung,

The words I want to say drowned inside the tides,

This itch I cannot scratch makes me feel denied.

"Please, if you're out there...don't forget."

"Please, if you're out there...I couldn't forget."

A warm ache fills me when I recall those days of laughter,

The butt of your joke is what my heart looks after,

Once more give me that line of sarcasm and fill my throat with glee,

I don't mind laughing at myself as long as it's you and me,

And If I poke and prod and annoy you, too,

then, please, furrow your wide, spacious brow and bite me with your attitude,

Double the sarcasm and serve it cold like you used to,

and then we'll both smile secretly because it's something we love to do,

Hearing you sigh and say that I'm foolish,

when we both know that you wouldn't live without it even by choice,

But we've come to the end,

to the fading sound of your voice.
