I'm (Un)reasonable

Have you ever entered dialogue

with the demagogues

of today?

It's less like conversation,

more like verbal

spray-and-pray.

We are machine guns,

we are monsters,

we are Machiavellian pawns.

We are blissful,

we are ignorant,

we are here, and then we're gone.

What is a world?

Is it made of dust

and water?

Just a mineral mishap?

Is it made

of justice

masquerading

as incriminating screencaps?

Is it made

of ones and zeroes?

Is it encrypted?

Where's the key?

Is it made of

"Never meet your heroes,

kid,"

or is that shit

just me?

I propose

it's made of none of these,

and all of them

at once.

I propose

the litter's only as strong

as how it treats

its runts.

I propose

that judgments cast in malice

are misinformed

at best.

I propose

you let me finish,

so I can get this

off my chest.

If your conjecture

is that violence

and prejudice and hate,

when used to protect your

tribe and harm those

who oppose you in debate,

are acceptable,

then I propose you re-evaluate

your values,

my dear mate.

Know what I mean?

Them wheels of war

will stop their spinning

when you quit gassing up the machine.

Jacob Sherman

The desire to read, and perhaps to write, should be cultivated and nurtured with care throughout every stage of life. For my part I will inject what strangeness and truth that I can into our written history. Expect no constants but honesty.
