I'm Never Going Back to Dallas

I will never call you again

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

I’m never going back to Dallas

I will never look you up again

I will never let you cross my mind

Or wonder how you are

I won’t text; I won’t call

I won’t even wish you well

But I will say a prayer or two

I’m never going back to Dallas

On paper you looked like Mr. Right for me

Twenty-five years ago

Back then you were such a nice sweet young man

But time has not been good to you

You have become hard and bitter

You have become intolerant and arrogant

And it shows in the face that was once

So handsome and beautiful

And although we

Never were together

We could never seem to make that happen

I now am so grateful for that.

I always knew you liked to play with hearts

But I thought you would outgrow it

You were so kind toward me back then

Your foundation seemed so solid

But you have turned into nothing more than a

Walking Dorian Gray painting

Yanked from the attic of your sad history

A caricature of decadence and neglect

With all of the ugliness you tried to hide

Displayed prominently for the world to see

I considered you a friend with hopes of maybe more

But not anymore

I’m never going back to Dallas

I will never look you up again

I will never let you cross my mind

Or wonder how you are

I won’t text; I won’t call

I won’t even wish you well

But I will say a prayer or two

I’m never going back to Dallas
