I'm In Love With A Ghost

Verse 1
The kettle learns your laughter, thin and low,
Floorboards keep your footsteps, come and go.
You traded keys for constellations, letters for the smoke;
You transitioned into evening, and I’m loving a ghost.
Pre-chorus
I set two cups on the table, just in case,
Speak in present tense to fill the space.
Chorus
I’m in love with a ghost, and the living don’t know
How your hands are the steam on my winter window.
You crossed into the quiet like a tide without a coast,
But you’re here in the here, and I’m in love with a ghost.
Verse 2
You write me on the mirror in a language made of breath,
Static finds our song on stations we never kept.
The porch light flickers twice, the tulips lean the most—
Little ways you say you stayed, and I’m loving a ghost.
Pre-chorus
I feel your weight in the daylight’s turning seams,
Your shadow rooms my shadow, folds my dreams.
Chorus
I’m in love with a ghost, and the living don’t know
How your hands are the steam on my winter window.
You crossed into the quiet like a tide without a coast,
But you’re here in the here, and I’m in love with a ghost.
Bridge
Maybe love is a thin place, paper-lantern skin,
Two rooms with a doorway, and your voice is the hinge.
I light a match and call you; the temperature turns gold—
If distance is a story, then ours is never told.
Verse 3
I walk where we were walking; the wind remembers how.
I wear your name like weather, like rain upon my brow.
I keep the night unlocked so you can come in close—
You transitioned into light, but you didn’t let me go.
Chorus
I’m in love with a ghost, and the living don’t know
How your hands are the steam on my winter window.
You crossed into the quiet like a tide without a coast,
Still here in the here—I’m in love with a ghost.
Outro
Speak in present tense,
Stay until the walls go soft,
Love that learned to breathe
On both sides of the cloth.
