I look back in time and wish I’d obeyed.

Wishing these regrets would leave with a shrug.

Instead of dishwashing, I should have stayed.

A mom should have risen early and prayed

Before the present day’s duties gave tug

I look back in time and wish I’d obeyed.

I’m sad to remember times I delayed,

To stop and listen, give love, and a hug.

Instead of dishwashing, I should have stayed…

Stayed in the midst of the moment and played.

Kissed them good night, tucked them in and snug.

I look back in time and wish I’d obeyed.

Did I guide correctly, leave them betrayed,

Those entrusted to me, left on my rug?

Instead of dishwashing, I should have stayed.

One can’t go backwards in time I’m afraid.

A mother’s love is a life-giving drug.

I look back in time and wish I’d obeyed.

Instead of dishwashing, I should have stayed.
