From a young girl, what was felt?
Discrimination
From a feeble mind, what was taught?
Submission
From a young woman
the stench of superiority casting a shadow over her hope
Dismissed and name-called
A gender minority
A racial minority
A trail of discourage
A lifetime of disappointment
An uphill battle from what emerged her discovery of
A voice.
Hers.
Theirs.
Throughout history, they have spoken and paved the way
but there is still a fight for her
in a world where her body is not her own
her choices imaginary
Her rights--a joke
Where she is expected to work as hard for less
and told to smile while doing so
Her voice is found
Her voice is needed
Her body
not a subject for politics
not an argument for them to have
Her mind
Not to be played with
Not for pity and manipulation
Her body
her mind
designed to endure
Her voice
Use it now
Use it always
They live in a world carried by her
Their bodies were born from her
Nourished by her
Fed by her
Yet they govern--her's.
Will she find the strength to speak and never stop?
Have those before her succeeded?
Will those after her be able to hear?
Before they're sexualized
dehumanized
conditioned to believe their worth is not enough
They will hear
Her voice.

Life spoken through poetry.
Everything hurts
and nothing is free.
Currently a stay at home mama to two wonderful, crazy kiddos. Finding my voice through poetry, and desperately finding time to read and write.
