I Know

An English Sonnet Inspired by Marcus Aurelius

I know the sun always shines without me.

I know the Earth would never stop its spin

because of my sorrow. Some want to flee

from life when its indifference scares them. Grinning,

I know all things shall pass. Misfortune and

bliss, all have their appointed time. Why Dread?

Why pressure yourself? Mishaps might have stunned

you, but can’t overpower you. When the threats

are clear, those dark times could be worth more than

a book of wisdom, so dive in the sea

of the unknowns! Live your own life that none

Have ever tried, but never lose the peace

in your soul. It’s the most precious thing.

Heart clings to nothing, so it spreads its wings.
