I Knew You

love is in the air

I knew you

like the air

in my lungs

I gulped you in

you were my oxygen

with every stone step

you took

you caused

my small brain to

malfunction

wires undone

skin tightening

and I wondered

when the rain would fall

when the birds would caw

when the moon would crawl

into the ocean blue sky with her

big yellow eyes

when the dried mango sun would rise

just like how you and I

get up each morning

in different places

yet we burn the same way

for one another

I remember

lonely nights gazing

at the stars

no hands to hold

I asked Orion

when I could find

someone like you

oh, how you knew me

even when I was

fast asleep

even when I did

not believe

there was

anything left

to feel

love poems
