I Have Never Met a Stranger
They arrive after a long journey,
leave upon a narrow path
The cycle of strangers continues thus
Yet, I have never met a stranger
They are a mine of coal
Whose door closes for me
They shine like diamonds in the darkness
They settle in the heart with a way of loving
Therefore, I have never met a stranger
Every living thing is a mirror of my desires
How artfully I meet them!
They carry everything, and I select from amongst it
Every wish, memory, and the fragrance of a lost stranger
In this world, I have not met any strangers
They must rise towards their destination
After walking some distance with me on a peaceful trail
I get lost in the thicket of memories on that same trail
Perhaps they, too, get lost carrying these very things
And I am never able to meet a stranger
