I GIVE UP!
An ode to all those frustrated parents with stubborn, bull-headed teenagers who know it all
I GIVE UP!
That’s it! I’m done.
You are so smart then you figure it out!
Don’t whine to me about being hungry. Your hands ain’t broke.
No, you cannot borrow my car. Get your own!
Clean laundry. I’m on strike.
Your clothes are in the wash and interrupting mine.
I will place them on your bed.
All you know to say is I want, I want, I want.
No Thank you. No, please.
What happened to the sweet little child I gave birth to!
The one with the bright eyes, agreeable disposition.
Who is to blame?
Who exchanged the child for this creation?
I love you and I hate to do this BUT
It is HIGH TIME for you to learn the HARD way.
It will pain me to see it.
It will go against everything I vowed once I became your parent.
I promised to put myself in harm’s way to keep you safe.
I promised to break my back paving the way to opportunity for you.
I promised to block injustice, unfairness, hatred from reaching you;
I promised an environment of bliss and much love.
YET, I did you a disservice.
Hard Times are great teachers. Broken hearts make your hearts grow bigger.
Disappointments make you more persistent.
Rejection makes us work harder.
Failure provides lessons to make our dreams better and bigger.
So, I love you so much to let you fall flat on your face.
I love you so much to let life give some HARD KNOCKS.
I love you so much to know that no matter what I will be here to make sure you don’t stay down
But, for NOW, I GIVE UP!
Learn on your own
