I’m halfway up the stairs
and completely blank.
I know I came up here
for…
something.
I pause dramatically,
like that will jog my memory.
It doesn’t.
My hand grips the railing
like it has answers.
It doesn’t.
I try retracing my steps
while standing still.
Nothing.
My brain offers helpful thoughts like:
where’s your phone?
did you lock the door?
did you feed your dog?
can cereal be considered soup?
None of these
explain why I’m here.
I sigh,
turn around,
tell myself I’ll remember later.
I won’t.
And if I do,
I’ll forget I was remembering.

When this happens I like to think it is because my thoughts are always exploring, and therefore open to new perspectives.
Felt. Every single day.
hahaha; that's my life in a nutshell. I heard a cute joke that also reminded me of me: I'm going to buy a pair of shoes with the memory foam inserts. This way when my brain forgets where I'm going, my shoes will remember. as I said haha.
