I First Saw Him Across the Street

A Love Story in Poem

I clicked on his profile; a chat ensued

First awkward, then flirty was the mood

***

Neither of us looking for “the one”

Just a physical release; a little fun

***

We made plans to meet, I’d pick him up after work

But I had low expectations, I had met quite a few jerks

***

I arrived a bit early, forgot the time

Butterflies in my stomach, nerves a ball of twine

***

Then there he was across the street under the marquee lights

And I knew in an instant, he would be a part of my life

***

He approached my car, we had introductions and hellos

Then he got in, to his place we would go

***

We talked for a while on his back porch

We just let the conversation take its course

***

Hours went by and we talked and talked,

Then on that hot summer night we walked

***

I told him about my life, and he told me his story

Neither one of us were seeking a life full of riches and glory

***

We both wanted a life of happiness and love,

And wondered if our meeting was a plan from above

***

Before we knew it, almost morning

What happened next had no warning

***

We fell in love that night

***

Now here we are, married for three years

Our life full of love and laughs, along the way a few tears

***

I fell in love with him when I saw him under that lit-up marquee

I knew then he was meant for me

***

Love at first sight seems impossible to some

But who are we to decide when love comes?
