I fell in Love with a Tree Today
A poem filled with personifications and metaphors

I met a tree today
We bonded in such a way I thought only humans could
I've held its branches
I've read the inscription written on the bark of its wood
Tall it stood in its human form
The crown on her head was bigger than the norm
This tree spoke to me in a way that didn't require the use of words
I guess you can say my thoughts were heard and attended to
I spoke and the tree grew
I am an extension of this tree
You see,
We identify with each other
From my father to my mother, even my sisters and brothers, on down to my grandparents
We share similar ways that are so transparent
The essence of this tree represents life to me
I need trees to breathe clean
I need trees to mentally describe to me the things in which they have foreseen
Just like me this tree uses its senses, but in ways that are different
You are powerful and fierce just like me
You were blessed with many gifts just like me
You put the darkness around you at ease just like me
And just like me, you find solace in the trees
Actually,
I believe trees were here first
They witnessed our birth, quenched our thirst
Showered us, I mean cleansed us
Befriended us unknowingly
But I know this tree and this tree knows me
This tree spoke to me openly about her falling leaves
I mean her falling seeds
This tree not only cried out to me
She requested that I water her feet where she's been grounded by her roots
This tree spoke truth regarding our youth
She gave me clarity
She gave clear insight to this awful reality and those of the past life
So, I fell in love with this tree today
Since the tree and I are one
I guess you can say
I fell in love with me today
Metaphorically speaking I am the tree which represents strength and enlightenment
