I Exist in the Grey

I exist in the grey,

In limitless shades

Of a moving spectrum,

Defiantly undefined.

The shape of clouds,

Unfurling smoke,

Fertile grey soil,

From which every colour blooms.

The neither nor, the and, the:

‘I am more than any one shade,

any one label you chose to define me’

I am her sweet orchid pink

I am his soulful sage eyes

I am their molasses trail of hair down to…

An explosion of frenzied colour.

The in-between place has all the potential.

There is no banality here,

Just the achromatic result of a union

between two perfectly complementary colours.
