I Didn’t Want it to Be This Way
When Loss Looms

I didn’t want it to be this way
The fading away
Not gentle like
The good night
But a painful
Fight.

I didn’t want
To hear the words
As your sisters heart
Breaks
End of life
A hell of a fight
But your twin sister
Grieves
A broken heart
A sad goodbye.

I want to remember
The words we used
To write, the legacy
You leave behind
Words of joy
Of sorrow
Of pain
And so much more.

There’s an emptiness
A sorrow
As final goodbyes approach
Words left unspoken
But sometimes nothing needs
To be said
Friends become
Like family
And yet distance
Leaves you
Feeling helpless
And broken.

I wish I could
Have finished
Every book
You wanted
To write
Given you
One More Trip
To Alaska,
But you know
One thing I could
Give
Were prayers
Lifted to
Heaven.
