I Counted To Ten And You Had Gone, The Runaway Man

I didn’t chase you why? Because we all have free will

I Counted To Ten And You Had Gone, The Runaway Man

I counted to ten and you had gone,

like it was planned, like you rehearsed it.

The door did not slam, it whispered,

as if you were sparing my feelings.

You were always a runaway man,

loving deeply, leaving faster.

You stayed just long enough to be missed,

never long enough to be known.

I searched the house for your absence,

cups, chairs, spaces where you once stood.

You took your body but left your echo,

and that was the cruellest part.

Some men do not leave suddenly,

they leave while standing right beside you.

some leave long before you realise it,

Some men want to go but stay.
