I Am Regression

Society Devolving

By Earl W. PearlPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

Please allow me to present myself and make my presence known

I’ve been living here among you, now I’m almost fully grown

I’m the moth within your fabric who’s been eating at your core

The intruder you unwittingly invited through the door

I’ve been hiding in the shadows, now I’ve stepped into the light

I’m the brother of Recession, our relationship is tight

I’m energetic and I’m active, I’m the stronger one by far

I’m eroding all your principles that made you what you are

I’m the enemy of Progress, I’m a cultural disease

I’ve been feeding unemployment, sent production overseas

Brutality, morality, one rises, one declines

But for each I’m always close so that my presence undermines

I’ve been focusing on insurance by driving up the cost

Have you seen the cost of healthcare and the coverages you’ve lost

I’m affecting education, made it costly in your schools

I’m all up in your politics, dividing up you fools

And let’s not forget the media for how they shape the news

If it weren’t for my involvement you would never know their views

You keep claiming you’re evolving, all while moving in reverse

If you truly were evolving, why would things be getting worse
