I am purple

By Jennifer King

I am purple

The shade just as the sun kisses the sky

Both inside and outside of day and night

Not one or the other, but both at once.

Half fiery warrior, half stoic peacekeeper.

I can fly, indestructible.

The world spinning so fast I need a fix.

I can't take in air, running in circles.

From the crash. To the crash.

Inevitably.

A stumble, I am in the ground.

Failing at everything, reality presses.

Until I can't even remember why.

I would want to keep breathing.

Is there a balance?

I am both. Jumping off of bridges

Into mountains of snow.

My heart racing, thump... Thump

Everything, nothing, full, empty.

Out of control, alone, frightened.

Weak. I am useless

Empty.

More than an illness

I am purple.
